In the words of the late Michael Jackson, 'This is it!',
Well, it's the first blog of which may or may not be many. Which in a way is it, i think.
In the blog I'll be taking a look on what's happening in the world of football, with a slight focus on my team, Yeovil Town, who play in the npower League 1, 2 leagues below the 'promised land' of the Premiership in England.
I sit here on a Sunday afternoon after following the 'big game' of today on the BBC website, a game in which Man Utd very nearly threw away a 2 goal lead, for the second league match in a row. Eventually however, they managed to grab a winner after Liverpool had got the score back to 2-2. Berbatov getting a hat-trick in the match, how very happy I am after I picked him in my fantasy football team at the beginning of the season. Any way, less of my Berba-styled pride.
Throwing away leads seems to be in my mind at the moment, I say it seems to be, but it's more a case of it being cemented there after Yeovil took a 2 goal lead away at Huddersfield yesterday, only to lose 4-2 come the final whistle. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset at the result, it's the kind of scoreline I would have expected prior to kick off. Huddersfield are a good team, with a good squad after all. The thing that bugs me a little is the throwing away the lead fact. When you're 2 goals to the good against a side in the same league as you, then it shouldn't be too hard to come away with at least a point. Even throw 6 people in defence if you have to. If Rooney, Ronaldo, Torres et al were baring down on us in the second half, then sure, they'd probably score a hat full, but we didn't. We should have got a point, no excuses. My personal opinion of course, I'm sure there will be many that disagree.
We lost a game I expected us to lose however, and we sit 17th in the league, which to be honest, I'd take that at the end of the season. After the usual pre-season optimism, after seeing glimpes of brilliance from some players, the grinds of the english league seems to be taking it's toll and it looks like battling hard against relegation again. The trouble is that this season, I'm struggling to find 4 teams that deserve to go down more than us, although I would stick my neck out and say Tranmere if they continue to play as badly as when they visited Huish Park a week ago.
In other news this week, Lionel Messi flew into London on a publicity stunt, from what I heard, he was due to have a 'kick about' with some kids in a promo stunt, however he was flown out again pretty quick following a safety scare, not quite sure what else they expected really. If only the pope had gone straight back home instead of costing us tax payers £10 million big ones, in a time where the's a lot of uncertainty with jobs in the public sector, there's really no excuse for spending it on him visiting, rather than the financial security of thousands of familys.
And so, onto the next fixture for my beloved YTFC, at home to Exeter. They beat us 1-3 a few weeks back in a 'Johnstones LDV vans paint trophy', a game in which Sam Williams got sent off, I haven't noticed that he's not been on the pitch in the last few games to be honest. But I think we need ot win the match, it's a game we should win if we really are going to push on to a mid table finish this year. Do I think we will win? I'm not so sure, I'm half expecting a loss, either 1-2 or 0-2. Probably the former.
To finish with a quote, just as I started with one, here's some Kevin Keegan: 'I would love it if we could beat them. Love it!'
